Lord of the Rings

We got the boys a "Lord of the Rings" Trivial Pursuit DVD Version game for Christmas and we played it for the first time tonight. Wow! Talk about fun! We all had a ball! We did make the mistake of letting Stephen go first...he held the die for several turns...like 6 and one pie piece. Some of the questions are relatively easy, "Where was the Council of Elrond held" while some made you just scratch your head "Who didn't reveal to the Fellowship that she was Aowen's grandmother"? We really enjoyed the questions and the interactive nature of the dvd questions as well. Tomorrow, we are having some friends over after church and the wife considers herself to be a bit of an authority of LOTR...perhaps we will have her challenge us on it.
Oh by the way, I did win the game tonight...YES!

The things our children say

We watched "Superman" the movie the week before last and the kids of course LOVED IT. First, I'm impressed just how well that movie has "held it's own" over the years...it still stirs in me the same emotions it did when I saw it oh way back when. Well, the kids and I were outside, doing what I don't remember, when Jane Beth asked Will, "How many Supermans are there?" I'm thinking the movies, right? Will wasn't, here was his answer...Will said, "Two, the one we saw and dad".
I still shake my head when I remember it...to be thought of that way by one's children is so...humbling. I'm with me 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I see me get mad at others(whether I show it or not), I know the things I do wrong, etc, etc...to be thought of in that way is just...I don't think there's a good enough word to describe it. For those of you that don't have kids...you can only imagine, there's just nothing to compare it to.

A skating we will go

When we lived in Monroe, we used to go roller skating, down here we go ice skating. Yep, ICE skating, every Friday afternoon. That's pretty cool, but I'm going to hold out for the homeschool group that goes snow skiing together every Friday.

Boats

When we moved into our neighborhood we said we'd have to get a boat...I mean, we live on a 58 acre lake, of course we needed a boat. Well, within 6 months, neighbors had given us 4 boats. No, I'm not kidding, 4 boats. Oh sure, they aren't Bayliners or anything like that, but they all float. Well, we went to go boating last week and found our boat that we keep in the lake to be...well, more in the lake than not. Today, my kids and I went down to pull the boat out of the lake and then re-launch it. Anybody ever pulled a boat filled with water out of a lake before? All I can say is, don't try this at home...these people performing this act are professionals. Yessirree...a pickup truck, heavy rope, a couple of 2 by 6's...we were in business. It took us an hour and a half, but it was fun and well worth it. I guess our bilge pump just couldn't pump the water out of the boat when it was completely clogged with leaves and mud...sheesh...they just don't make them like they used to.
Anyway...the next two weeks will be designated for lowering the number of boats we own...anybody want to come get one?

Alison Krauss

Oh yeah...I'm the lucky one. Yep, 2 tickets, 8th row, left side of the center section to hear this lady sing when she comes to the Heymann Center in March! Wahooooo! Candice and I have a list of people we'll pay good money to go see/hear in our lives and she is one of them. We are very excited about seeing this lady.
You may be jealous.

What I do

Most of you don't know what I do now for a living. Short answer is I clean and maintain 3 offices for a pediatrican's group here in the Lafayette area. Ok, so that's oversimplifying things, but that's the easiest way to explain it. One of the advantages is that I get to wake up with my kids and don't usually leave the house til after lunch, sometimes as late as 5 or 6pm. Why? Can you imagine how complicated it would be to work on things or clean them with parents, kids, and coworkers everywhere?
So, I work with little to no supervision and nobody looking over my shoulder telling me "Hey, you missed a spot". I should have more time to blog, but that's not so, if I take the time to post something(which I do occasionally), it's pretty much got to be during a rarely taken break...okay, so I take breaks more often on some nights than others, but seriously, it keeps me at work longer to do so, thus I tend to wait until I get home to do so.
Another thing that's kind of neat about this work schedule is that I'm often one of the only people on the roads when I finish. It's just nice. I've also gotten to meet people that you wouldn't normally get to. You know those folks that work at the convenience stores during the graveyard shift? You should talk to them sometime, there is a wide range of people doing that job...interesting, really.
Ok, gotta go work...don't look, I know I missed that spot.

Ah what to blog....

Weird...I've logged on like 10 times since the beginning of the year and nothing and I mean NOTHING has seemed worthy to write about. Oh sure, I could tell you about what the kids did and said, the latest movie, or the domestic dispute I saw...but then I have to go into all the details of those stories and I didn't have that much time when I'd sign in, so I was lazy and blogged zilch. I'm impressed how people like Shannon Trisler, Jeremy Wilkins, and Christin Booth can log in, type and voila!...enjoyable and impressive reading abounds. Some of us have to work at it, darn you others.
So, here's a list of what happened today:
Woke up...late.
Ate breakfast...cereal, crunchy, yum!
Mowed two yards with WAY TOO MANY LEAVES for just the mowing price...and then it rained, so now I have to go back to finish...can you say not worth the money this time?
Ate lunch with kids.
Got ready to go for a walk but layed on the couch after putting shoes on...oops, slept for an hour and a half.
Time to go to work.
So here I am...blogging during the break. My days are usually far more successful than that at home insofar as spending time with the family, but I guess we must expect days like that, huh?

Okay...back to it, lots to do here.

Merry New Year

Why Merry? 'Cause we made merry! Wahoo! We went to some friends' home over in Breaux Bridge...he's a sugar cane farmer and she's a radio DJ. There were a bunch of other folks there and we ate really good food, drank some good beer(and even some water), popped alot of fireworks, and just had an all out ball! It's funny because on our way into town yesterday I commented to my wife how this was the first year since our marriage that we'd not been invited over to someone's home for New Year's Eve. Well, we stopped off at Piper's Haven for some pipe tobacco and a couple of cigars and inside was my friend Kent. He asked what we were doing and immediately invited us over to their bonfire that evening. Sweet!

Again, Merry New Year!
